'Armed with our new understanding of Egyptian
code-words such as 'islands' and 'mountains', it is perhaps time to reassess Plato's description of Atlantis...'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 389)'no-one denies that the story of Atlantis ultimately came from Egypt.
The familiar account from Plato c. 400 bc, was received by him from Critias, who had received it from Solon, who had received it from the Egyptian priests at the town of Sais. So the Atlantis myth came out of Egypt.'
(An Interview with Alan Alford 14th July 1998)
'Until recently, I had assumed that Plato was describing a terrestrial cataclysm whereby an 'island' literally sank into the 'sea' following an 'earthquake' and a
'flood'. But once I began to think like an Egyptian, I immediately recognised 'island' as a common metaphor for 'planet'. This metaphor was strengthened by the idea that space was an ocean of water, in which primeval
mounds emerged at the beginning of time. Hence the Egyptians imagined planets as 'islands' floating in the cosmic waters, the latter surely being the 'true ocean' described by Plato.'
(Article in Atlantis Rising Number 17 p. 59)
'What I have done is to identify the original Atlantis of Egyptian lore. But we can't rule out the possibility that an advanced civilisation living on a real terrestrial
island might have been destroyed at some time in the past... But what I would say is that Plato's Atlantis legend is not necessarily a good starting place for those who are seeking Atlantis here on Earth...'
(An Interview with Alan Alford 14th July 1998)
'I, for my part, am continuing to research the mysteries of the past with an open mind, but have already established promising results in some of the most challenging
fields, such as the mysteries of Atlantis and the Holy Grail (these subjects will be reported upon in due course).'
(When The Gods Came Down p. 412)
'Alan Alford is currently working on a fourth book, with the
working title 'Secrets of Atlantis'. This book follows up Alan's gut instinct in 'The Phoenix Solution' that Plato's Atlantis was an exploded planet. The objective of the study is to prove decisively one way or another
whether this was the case. The book will take an unusual approach and will be totally different from any Atlantis book ever written. Hodder & Stoughton Publishers have first option over the manuscript.
