On the Great Pyramid's Purpose

'the assumption that 'all pyramids are tombs and nothing but tombs' has been repeated so many times, that it appears in all Egyptology books as fact. In reality, however, it is a theory which does not bear up well to close scrutiny, and is contradicted by numerous facts which have been conveniently ignored.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 75)

'The bottom line on the pyramids-as-tombs theory is that there is as yet no positive evidence whatsoever for original pyramid burials prior to the 6th Dynasty.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 75)

'we can rule out any comedy of errors in the form of a funeral procession climbing the Grand Gallery.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 320)

'we must now recognise that the history of pyramid-building and burial practices is far more complex than has hitherto been admitted, and traditions may have changed during Egypt's long history. It is thus perfectly plausible that pyramids were never used for burials during the 4th Dynasty, and that such a practice might have been introduced later. Why do Egyptologists speak of revolutionary religious changes in the Old Kingdom, and yet fail to consider that such religious changes might extend to the practice of burial itself?'
(The Phoenix Solution pp. 108-9)

'Until Egyptologists find a new solution, they will not let go of the old tombs theory. But until they let go of the old tombs theory, they will never begin to find a new solution. This is a 'catch 22', with human psychology as the barrier to progress.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 71)

'the pyramids were used primarily for ascending, not for burial. The mythology of Osiris and his resurrection in the Duat suggests that... the last thing to be found actually inside a pyramid, above ground level, would be a body.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 320)

'Egyptian mythology and religious beliefs contradict the pyramids-are-tombs theory and can be used to deduce from first principles a very different purpose and meaning for the pyramids.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 19)

'If this structure was simply another Egyptian tomb, why have the experts failed to identify satisfactorily the meaning of so many enigmatic features, such as the multiple chambers, the Grand Gallery and its grooves and niches, the Queen's Chamber and its niche, and the four tiny shafts which include the mysterious 'Gantenbrink door'?'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 68)

'I remain convinced that the Great Pyramid was indeed some kind of high-tech functional device, but I no longer relate it to ancient astronauts and I am by no means dogmatic as to how this device might have worked.'
(www.eridu.co.uk 'Ancient Astronauts', March 2000)

'... our working hypothesis needs to be that we don't know what the Giza pyramids are.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 72)

'we will never understand the meaning of the Great Pyramid unless we can open our minds and abandon any pretence of a working hypothesis.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 109)

'we must continue our investigation with the 'honest' working hypothesis that 'we don't know what the Great Pyramid was'.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 321)

'the interior features of the Pyramid suggest to me that it had an active, rather than merely a passive, function, and nor am I alone in gaining such an impression. As Bauval commented in 1994, 'many have remarked that the Grand Gallery looks like part of a machine, whose function is beyond us.' I agree, but I also think that the purpose of the Pyramid's shafts is something currently beyond our imagination, as is the purpose of the mysterious 4.6-metre-high niche in the Queen's Chamber.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 415)

'there are... many signs of a functionality, aimed towards an arcane purpose that we cannot comprehend.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 320)

'The problem is that we don't have the complete picture of all the Pyramid's shafts and chambers, and it's as if the authorities don't want us to have it... I'm still open-minded on what the Pyramid's function might have been, but I'm trying to take an honest approach in saying that I really don't know for certain. I only wish that Egyptologists could be brave enough to let go of the old tomb-theory and admit that they don't know either!'
(www.eridu.co.uk 'An Interview with Alan Alford', 20th July 1998)

'I feel certain that these tiny shafts are the key to the function of the Pyramid...'
(www.eridu.co.uk 'An Interview with Alan Alford', 20th July 1998)

'Did these shafts transport the soul of the dead king to heaven, or were they built by a pre-dynastic race for some arcane functional purpose which we cannot yet comprehend?'
(The Phoenix Solution caption to Plate 34)

'The ongoing mystery of the Great Pyramid is perhaps best illuminated by an analogy. Imagine that a primitive tribe came face to face with a personal computer for the first time. What would be their reaction? Its form would be totally unrecognisable to them, and they would not even be able to switch it on, for electricity would be a concept unfamiliar to them. And why would they be unfamiliar with electricity and computers? Simply because they have never recognised a need for such things. Perhaps this is the problem with the Great Pyramid. Have we overlooked its significance because it is intended to fulfil a function that we have not yet conceived?... One day, the primitive tribe will appreciate the need for the computer, and will learn how to plug it in to the energy which drives it. Perhaps we should look to the Great Pyramid with this thought in mind.'
(The Phoenix Solution p. 415)
